25 August 2021

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), by means of the Nemangkawi Miming Institute alongside PT United Tractors Tbk. Freeport Site, organized a TOT Life Skills Training for vocational teachers throughout the Mimika Regency.

The training took place at the Amamapare Polytechnic campus, C Heatubun Rd., Timika over two days, Wednesday-Thursday (8/25-26). According to Soleman Faluk, Senior Manager Nemangkawi Mining Institute, the life skill training included all Middle Vocational Schools in the Mimika Regency and was divided into two groups/classes of students.

“The focus of our training is for teachers in the counselling section and student section, because it is related to the national curriculum at the Middle Vocational Level, particularly soft skills that are practiced in the industrial world; and thus it is expected of the teachers who are receiving this training that they will be able to transfer the knowledge to the students and thereby able to change the mindset of the students how to respect people, how to conduct proper communication, how to properly respond to people. If these values are taught in school, it goes without saying that the vocational graduates are ready and able to be active in the workplace,” he explained.

Soleman said, there are three important aspects/qualities in the industrial world which should be mastered, namely knowledge, skills and character or behaviour. In general, our human resources master knowledge and skills quite good; the aspect that needs improving is the character of behaviour. That is the reason for our presence, to enhance that aspect; a good character is the most important value in the industrial world,” he disclosed.

However, implementing those aspects is not an easy matter, therefore teachers must have good skills so that they can apply these qualities to their students to be able to produce top graduates who are ready to embark in the workplace. He added, PT Freeport Indonesia is wholly committed to enhance the human resources in Mimika, therefore PT Freeport Indonesia provides its full support hoping thereby the Middle Vocational School graduates in Mimika may be given priority to work in the various companies in Mimika.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of MKKS Mimika, John Lemauk, stated that life skills training such as this can hopefully be continued to enhance the human resources sector in the Mimika Regency.

“We hope this training can enhance the skills of the teachers, which can subsequently be implemented to our students as the future generation,” he stated. In his capacity as the chairperson of MKKS, John extended his appreciation to PT Freeport Indonesia, which continues to be committed to enhancing the human resources in Mimika.
