Riza Pratama: PT Freeport Indonesia Does not Involve in the Politics of Expansion, not Even the Slightest

04 July 2022

PT Freeport Indonesia confirmed that they were not involved in the political process of determining the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Central Papua Province, whose current capital is Nabire. This firm statement was conveyed by PT Freeport Indonesia's VP of Corporate Communications, Riza Pratama when contacted by BeritaMimika, Monday (4/7/2022).

This affirmation also answers all opinions and issues that have developed and mentions that PT Freeport Indonesia was the mastermind behind the determination of Nabire as the capital city of Central Papua Province. "PTFI has never been involved in the division of provinces from the past until now," he said.

Riza Pratama said that PTFI complies and complies with laws and government policies so that there is no reason whatsoever for management to get involved in various issues, especially those related to expansion. "PTFI is a business entity that is subject to the laws and policies of the Government of Indonesia. And according to company policy, we cannot be involved in any political decisions, including the determination of the New Autonomous Region (DOB)," he said.

He hopes that this explanation can provide understanding to the public so that they are not instigated or provoked by the problems and dynamics that have recently been related to the expansion, let alone related to the presence of PT Freeport Indonesia in Mimika. PTFI's presence in Papua will continue to synergize with the government and the community, and PTFI will also continue to contribute in other ways such as providing support for economic development, health, education, and infrastructure.
