Supporting Education in Papua, Freeport Indonesia Provides Educational Support to Christian Education Foundation (YPK) of the Evangelical Christian Church (GKI)

Wasior, October 31, 2025 — PT Freeport Indonesia handed over an educational contribution to the Christian Education Foundation (YPK) of the Evangelical Christian Church (GKI) in Wasior, Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua.

"This support is part of PTFI's commitment to the education of Papuan children. We believe education is the foundation for developing high-quality human resources," said Claus Wamafma, Director and Executive Vice President of Sustainable Development at PTFI.

The handover of aid was carried out during the peak celebration of the Centenary Celebration of the Prophecy of Dominee I. S. Kijne, which took place in the Aitumieri Hill Area, Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua Province on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The Head of PTFI Nabire Representative Office, Joel Husig, symbolically handed over the support to Bernardus A. Imburi, First Vice Chairman of the Centennial Commemoration of Education in Papua.

The educational support includes the latest curriculum textbooks, computers, projectors, biology laboratory equipment and demonstration tools, sports equipment, and chairs that will be received by 12 schools ranging from early childhood education (PAUD) to junior high school levels in Wasior, Teluk Wondama Regency.

Claus stated that the education program is one of the main focus areas of PTFI's social investment, alongside health and community economics. Through education, more Papuan youth will be able to compete on the global stage.

"PTFI is grateful to play a role in the education of Papuan children. We also greatly appreciate the collaborative spirit between PTFI, the government, the church, and the community in building a better future for Papua," said Claus.

First Vice Chairman of the Centennial Commemoration of Education in Papua, Bernardus A. Imburi, expressed appreciation for PTFI's support during this historic moment. "One hundred years of education in Papua is an important milestone. We are grateful for the concrete contribution from PTFI, which strongly supports education through the church, in building intelligent and characterful Papuan generations," he said.

Bernardus noted that the transformation of education in Papua has reached its 100th year on October 25, 2025. Thousands of people from government and community elements across Papua attended this celebration. This became a moment of reflection on historical values and the educational renaissance that has transformed the entire life of Papuan people.
