Vice President Ma'ruf Amin visited the implementation of social service (baksos) activities for cataract and cleft lip operations at the Wonosari Jaya Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Timika, Central Papua, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
Vice President Ma'ruf appreciates the activities. According to Ma'ruf, the government cannot work alone but needs to collaborate with various institutions to provide public services.
The event with the theme "Kitorang Melihat Terang" (We See the Light) was organized by members of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Holding Mining Industry MIND ID, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), together with the Association of Retired Indonesian Army Officers (PPAD), the Central Papua Provincial Government and Mimika Regency, as well as the Indonesian Society of Ophthalmology (Perdami).
A total of 78 patients (105 eyes) will undergo cataract surgery by doctors from Perdami. Meanwhile, cleft lip surgery will be performed by a team of doctors from the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) with a total of 11 cleft lip patients. "The slogan 'Kitorang Melihat Terang' has manifested itself. The light is not only for the restoration of the vision of our brothers and sisters here but also for the advancement of Papua in its regions, its prosperous economy, and its intelligent human resources," said Vice President Ma'ruf, as quoted from Antara on Friday, July 14, 2023.
Corporate Secretary of BUMN Holding MIND ID, Heri Yusuf said that this charity event is a form of continuous support from MIND ID and its member companies. "This social service is in line with the sustainable path of MIND ID through the Community and Society pillar," said Heri Yusuf in a written statement quoted on Friday, July 14, 2023.
Moreover, PTFI President Director Tony Wenas stated that the strong commitment of the MIND ID Group and PTFI is to continue providing support to the community in Mimika Regency, especially in dealing with health issues. "This is an addition to our social programs, such as education programs, health programs, and other ongoing programs," said Tony.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PPAD, who is also the President Commissioner of MIND ID, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Dr. (H.C.) Doni Monardo, stated that even though they are retired, their concern for others never diminishes. "As Vice President mentioned, retirement is only administrative. However, as the country's protector, we continue to carry out our duties of service to the nation until our ears can no longer hear salvo shots. In other words, until the end of our lives," said Doni.
