World Labor Day, Freeport and Labor Union Discuss the Importance of Synergy

Commemorating World Labor Day, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) held an interactive dialogue with SPSI-PTFI, SBSI-PTFI and the Papuan Independent Workers' Union (SPMP)-PTFI.

The interactive dialogue held at Rimba Papua Hotel Lounge Room (RPH), on Saturday (1/5/2021) was also attended by the Mimika District Office of Manpower (Disnaker), Director and EVP of Human Resources of PTFI, Clementino Lamury.

The interactive dialogue was held to discuss the importance of synergy and harmony between companies, employees, and local governments to ensure the company's operations continue to run. So that it can continue to provide added value and wider benefits for the country amid the impact of the pandemic. World Labor Day is a momentum to strengthen togetherness and brotherhood, becoming a unifying tool for the nation to increase social resilience to fight Covid-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic that has been going on for more than a year still has a variety of impacts for businesses, governments, and workers in various industries, including mining.

Amidst the various impacts of the pandemic, PTFI as a national vital object continues to operate and turn the wheels of the regional economy. As well as contributing to the people living around the operating area, Papua and Indonesia. This can certainly be realized thanks to good collaboration between companies, workers, and the government as the regulator of employment relations.

The interactive dialogue activity was started with a welcome speech by Nikodemus Purba, Technical Advisor of Manpower Stakeholder Relations PTFI. "The commemoration of World Labor Day is a momentum to strengthen the synergy between employees, employers, and the Government of Indonesia to build a conducive working environment to benefit stakeholders," Nikodemus said in a press release received by Seputarpapua.com, Monday (3/5/2021).

Chairman of SPSI-PTFI, Lukas Saleo on the same occasion explained the important role of PTFI employees in ensuring the continuity of the company's operations and the development of the country.

"As one of the leading actors of employment, union organising can be part of efforts to promote quality job creation for sustainable development," lukas said. Meanwhile, Leo Kapeyau from SBSI-PTFI emphasized the sustainability of the company and increased productivity depending on good relations and collaboration between workers and company leaders.

Virgo Solosa, representing SPMP-PTFI said World Labor Day can be a momentum to strengthen togetherness and brotherhood between union organizations and employees.

Virgo invites all employees to support the company in providing added value and contribution to the community around the company, the people of Papua, and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Head of Industrial Relations at Disnaker Mimika Syane Mandesy, conveyed the importance of fostering good communication and relations, as well as transparency between employers, workers, and the government. So that all parties get the optimal benefits from the sustainability of the company's operations."It is important to create safe and conducive mimika conditions, to bring investors to invest in creating wider employment opportunities," he said.

"Therefore, all elements of PTFI employment play an important role in building other sectors, which can have an impact on regional progress, especially Mimika. As well as increasing the role of trade union organizations/trade unions recorded in the Mimika Labor Office so that it is effective in resolving industrial relations disputes," syane added.

Closing the dialogue event, Director and EVP human resources of PTFI, Clementino Lamury expressed his appreciation to all PTFI employees for their support and hard work in helping to realize the company's contribution to Indonesia.

Clementino also conveyed PTFI's commitment to putting employee welfare as the company's top priority. This is in line with the company's efforts to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (TPB/SDGs).

"Employee welfare may increase not only depending on the increase in basic wages or employee facilities/benefits but also needs to be followed by responsible behavior towards the management of family finances as a form of gratitude," Clementino added.

The activities carried out by following the Covid-19 health protocol, went smoothly and full of family. After that, the activity continued with iftar together and dinner.
