The Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, was impressed with the Minegem space in PT Freeport Indonesia's operating area. She felt the room was exciting as if she was playing a game. "One of the things that caught my attention when I visited PT Freeport Indonesia's operating area in Tembagapura was a room similar to a game station or game zone, but everyone wore overall work uniforms. Everyone sat relaxed but worked seriously," Sri said on her Instagram account @smindrawati on Jakarta, Wednesday (7/12/2022).
That's the Minegem chamber which is a remote automatic operating system of underground mining equipment introduced by Caterpillar. This automatic system is implemented to overcome operational challenges such as wet mud and seismic activity. "Yes, working in extreme environments such as underground mines has great challenges, so with increasingly rapid technological developments, the risks from these work challenges can be minimalized," said Sri.
Interestingly, 50 of the operators are women and some are sons and daughters of the Papua region. "I also had a chance to talk with Ni Wayan Mega Febriyanti and Maria Evani Teturan, a skilled two of the operators. The extreme working environment and 12-hour shifts a day do not prevent them from contributing optimally," she explained. "Super cool," said Sri.
