Freeport Disburses IDR 5 Billion Social Service for PPAD in Central Papua

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) disbursed IDR 5 billion in funds to support the Social Service (Baksos) Association of Retired Indonesian Armed Forces (PPAD) in Central Papua, in particular the Mimika and Nabire Regencies. The social service with the theme ‘Kitorang Melihat Terang' focuses on cataract and cleft lip surgery services, general health services, teeth checkups, and the distribution of vitamins and essential food items. A team of doctors from Perdami performed cataract surgery on 78 patients, 105 eyeballs. While cleft lip surgery was conducted by a team of doctors at the Central Army Hospital (RSPAD) with 11 patients. The Social Service was reviewed directly by Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at the Mimika Hospital on Wednesday, 12 July 2023.

President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Tony Wenas, said the company provided support of IDR 5 billion which was provided in the form of providing 1,150 basic food packages for activities of the 6,000 packages prepared, transportation and accommodation for doctors from RSPAD & PERDAMI and PPAD as implementers of Social Services in Timika. "Part of the basic food packages and other assistance was provided in joint activities with the Regional Government to support health management such as stunting in the Mimika and Nabire Regencies," said Tony Wenas.

Tony Wenas conveyed the company's strong commitment to supporting the people of Mimika Regency facing health problems. "This is part of our commitment, and this agenda complements our social programs that are already running, such as for education, health, and others," said Tony.

 

Apart from this social service program, PTFI in conjunction with Amungme and Kamoro Community Development Foundation (YPMAK) continue to support community healthcare service activities through the development and operation of hospitals and clinics in Mimika Regency, including the Mitra Masyarakat Hospital (RSMM) in Mimika, the clinics in SP-9, SP-12, and Pomako, respectively, and the TB – STI (Sexual Transmission Infection) clinic. PTFI is also the major driver of the malaria control program conducted in partnership with the Mimika Regency Health Office.
