Freeport Distributes Food Aids to the Amungme-Kamoro Community

The world faced a difficult situation during restriction period (social distancing) of the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19). PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) as the largest gold and copper mining company in the world through Social Local Development (SLD) distributes food aid (Bama) for 3,875 people of the Amungme and Kamoro Community (AMOR).

This was conveyed by Yohanes Bewahan Kae, Manager Community Economic Development of PTFI to Timika eXpress via cellphone, Saturday 11 th April 2020. Yohanes explained that this assistance was given to the Kamoro community in villages which are Koperapoka with 516 people, Ayuka with 393 people, Tipuka with 544 people, Nawaripi with 450 people and Nayaro with 309 people, so there will be no shortage of food during this difficult time. Since 26 th March 2020, all transportation in cooperation with Kartika Ima Jaya Keramo (IJK) Cooperative Primary (PRIMKOP) for transportation to Nayaro and Maria Bintang Laut Cooperative (KMBL) under the auspices of the Timika Diocese has been temporarily stopped.

The distribution of nine-basic needs, he said, had begun since Wednesday 8 th April 2020 in Nawaripi and Koperapoka villages and since Thursday 9 th April 2020 in Tipuka and Ayuka villages. While in Kampung Nayaro scheduled on Monday 13 th April 2020. The distribution of these basic food needs was conducted after coordinating with the Task Force for Acceleration and Control of Covid-19 Mimika and through the collaboration of the Mimika Creative Economy Cooperative Office and Mimika Micro Small Medium Enterprises (UMKM), that requested PTFI to participate in this situation. Government is the one that has its people. However, PTFI also has a moral responsibility to the communities that its fostered and therefore will always ready to support.

The food aids that prepared for Amungme and Kamoro community, are consist of 2,132 sacks of rice or as much as 2.1 tons. Then 6000 liters of cooking oil, 4,800 cartons of instant noodles, eggs, as for milk for babies and food for babies were re- evaluated considering there were some residents who do not have babies. All of PTFI's budget for providing food aids is worth Rp1.6 billion. & quot;The food ais which we have distributed to the community of four villages, are

consist of 524 bags of 25 kg rice, 1,014 cartons of noodles, 1,269 liters of cooking oil and 508 racks of eggs. We hope that the community can be helped, considering the current difficult situation. This is a model of collaboration of the Mimika Regency Government which has community and we only support and are certainly ready to help, & quot; he explained.

In addition to assistance in the form of food aids, he continued, PTFI through the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK) also provided assistance to the Mimika Regency Government in the form of cash money. Besides the assistance to the community of five villages which are Nayaro, Atuka, Tipuka, Koperapoka and Nawaripi, there is also a group of ex-Banti that when a security disturbance occurred, 1,663 people also received assistance. The distribution of food aids was done through community leaders and the local village heads. They now live with families that spread at Mile 32, in Jileale SP 3 Village, C Heatubun Street, Cenderawasih SP 2 Street. "All of the data related to the people who receive the assistance are complete with us," he concluded.
