Freeport Facilitates Papuan Journalists to Attend HPN 2023 in Medan City

09 February 2023

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), through its corporate communications (Corp.Comm), has facilitated journalists in Papua to trigger a series of activities for the 2023 National Press Day (HPN), 7-12 February 2023 to be exact, which will be held in Medan City, North Sumatra.

The journalists who were invited during this period came from 5 mass media in Timika, Central Papua, namely salampapua.com; Papua 60 seconds; Timika Express; Timika Bisnis; and Antar Papua News. Meanwhile, from Jayapura, Papua, there are wartaplus.com; Reportase Papua; and four representatives from the Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) in Papua.

Karel Luntungan as PTFI Corp.Comm Superintendent also accompanied PTFI Corp.Comm. "Freeport always facilitates journalists as representatives from each media as part of a constructive collaboration in building journalism professionalism in Papua generally," he said.

According to Karel, Freeport has implemented this program since the HPN event in 2019 and rotates every year from every media in Papua. He also hopes that journalists participating in HPN activities can take many lessons and use them as valuable experiences in strengthening the world press in Papua, specifically in Indonesia.

"Because there are so many mass media in Papua, both print, online and electronic, journalists invite us to roll it out every year. Hopefully, this will be useful and motivate the development of human resources for journalists and the press company itself," he said.
