Freeport Indonesia Celebrate Christmas 2021 in the Spirit of Brotherhood and Mutual Love in Tembagapura

PT. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has celebrated Christmas 2021 in the spirit of brotherhood and love by performing social acts benefiting the population of Kampung Banti I ,  Banti II, Optawak and Kimbeli in the District of Tembagapura, Mimika Regency on Tuesday, December 7,2021. The social acts part of a series of PTFI Christmas activities were taking place in the church in Banti I, and was composed of a Christmas service and handing out to the local congregation parcels containing main staples, colouring utensils, school bags, and 160 boxes of second hand but still wearable clothing an last but not least a special appearance by Santa Claus for the children.

“We held a special service there for the local community which were very joyful seeing us coming. We also brought toys, shoes and clothes for them. The clothes were collected over the last two weeks by the womenfolk of the Tembagapura Oikumene Church, the Tembagapura community, management and workers of PTFI”, said Yan Pieter Sibarani, VP Special Projects PTFI also functioning as chairman of the Christmas Committee Oikumene 2021 PT Freeport Indonesia.

Pieter said that what really counted was not the amount or the value of the goods that we gave but the Tembagapura community’s spirit of brotherhood, the love being shared by management and workers of PTFI manifested through the Christmas 2021 theme  “The Love of Christ Moves Brotherhoods.”

"Actually the real essence here is the unification of love and brotherhood of the Tembagapura community in giving love and attention in the spirit of Christmas to the community, especially those living in the surroundings of Tembagapura.

Prior to the activities, he said, and still in the framework of joy and in the spirit of Christmas 2021, PTFI had organized a Christmas service taking place at Portsite, to be exact in the Portsite Multipurpose Building on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Soon  thereafter on Saturday December 4th, PTFI also arranged for Christmas Caroling with Santa Claus in Kuala Kencana, Mimika, Papua. “Then on December 5th PTFI held Christmas activities in 3 different places, 1) the Jakarta Santa Drive through at Plaza 89, Parking Lot area Jakarta, 2) Christmas with Tembagapura children at the PTFI soccer field in Tembagapura, (this one was in collaboration with the Tembagapura Mountain Children (AGuTe) and 3) diaconal services at the Gereja Bukit Zaitun (Olive Mount Church) Tembagapura,” he said.

Pieter added that the pinnacle of PTFI Christmas 2021 celebrations was on Friday, December 10th when PTFI held a Christmas service in the Tembagapura Sport hall at 18.30 WIT. “This Christmas service was also attended by PTFI workers in the Bethlehem Church Kuala Kencana and in Plaza 89 Jakarta. The event was live casted through zoom and YouTube channel PT Freeport Indonesia. The service was conducted by the Reverend Chris Manusama and was enlivened by Angie Pieters,” he said.
