In between his tour to PT Freeport Indonesia underground mining area, the President and the First Lady, Iriana Jokowi visited the house of pray located at the underground site, on Thursday (1/9/2022). The praying house were Al Baabul Munawwar Mosque and the Okumene Soteria Church at the Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ) Underground, Mimika Regency.
Quoted from the press coverage, despite it is common thing for Jokowi and the first lady to visit praying houses on their tours. It was revealed that Jokowi and the wife deeply impressed by the two praying house located deep underground, not only they admire its uniqueness but they also reflect a sense of high tolerance. After the quick stop, Jokowi and team headed to the Grasberg Block Cave Underground to see firsthand the underground mining operation.
Al Baanul Munawwar Mosque and Okumene Soteria Church were once awarded with the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for the category of deepest praying houses located at 1.700 meters below sea level. The Mosque and Church began its construction back in 2014 and fully operational in 2015, which to date still being used by workers of PT Freeport Indonesia.
