Mimika Regency Basic Health Research Embodiment of Cross-Sectoral Synergy in Papua

Head of the Health Development Policy Agency, (Badan Kebijakan Pembangunan Kesehatan/BKPK), Syarifah Liza Munira, received a visit from the Mimika Regency Regional Administration, Central Papua Province on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. The Mimika Regency Regional Administration presented the results of the 2022 Basic Health Research (Riset Kesehatan Dasar) of its regions. The 2022 Mimika Regency Basic Health Research is conducted by the Mimika Regency Regional Administration by means the Health Office along with PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and the Health Innovation Center Foundation (Pusat Inovasi Kesehatan/PIKAT) affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine of the Udayana University.

Liza appreciated the partnership conducted in terms of implementing the Mimika Regency Basic Health Research in 2022. "Appreciation in terms of the initiative, effort and results that were conducted by the Health Office in the Mimika Regency, by involving the participation of the private sector and the community there. Involvement of stakeholders in the regions is paramount to ensuring the data collection that is conducted," he said. According to him, health policies should be determined based on data and evidence. Based on the researched data, the administration is able to provide the appropriate health services.

It is the wish of the Ministry of Health to encourage local administrations to be able to improve collection of health data. In addition to routine data collection, the local administrations are also expected to conduct health surveillance in a sound manner, thereby they are able to provide suitable/appropriate intervention.

The results of the 2022 Mimika Regency Basic Health Research were submitted by the Head of the Mimika Regency Health Office, Reynold Ubra. Reynold hoped that the results of the Mimika Regency Basic Health Research in 2022 can be forwarded cross-ministries and institutions at the central level, thereby being beneficial in terms of formulating policy directions for regencies in the Central Papua Province New Autonomous Region.

Chairman of the Health Innovation Center Foundation, Pande Putu Januraga, stated, the Mimika Regency Basic Health Research represents one of the most important, most complex and largest research that they have ever supported as a consultant. This research was successful due to the hard work of the Mimika Regency Regional Administration, in particular the Health Office, and of course the full support of PT Freeport Indonesia. "Hopefully the resulting data will assist the development of Mimika become more strategic and high-leverage, benefitting the public health and welfare," he mentioned.

PT Freeport Indonesia plays a role in terms of providing human resources and funding support.  PT Freeport Indonesia as part of Papua is very pleased to be directly involved in the 2022 Mimika Regency Basic Health Research. "We are ready to support the Mimika Health Office and the Mimika Regional Administration in terms of managing the main issues of the Basic Health Research results, including therein other health issues," said PT Freeport Indonesia Director-Executive Vice President Sustainable Development & Community Relations, Claus Wamafma.
