Papua Football Team Makes History in PON XX, PT Freeport to Award Rp 1 Billion Bonus

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) will be awarding a Rp 1 billion bonus to the Papua football team for winning the gold medal in the 20th national games PON XX in Papua. This was disclosed by PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas after watching the men’s football final game on Thursday (14/10). The Papua team earned the gold medal after defeating Aceh with a score of 2-0.

"We will present a bonus of Rp 1 billion to the Papua football team during PON XX. Hopefully, Papuan football will continue to advance, and I am confident the provincial government and central government will be giving special attention to football, in particular in Papua," Tony Wenas said.

PTFI will also be working together with All Indonesia Athletics Association Central Committee (PB PASI) to develop Mimika Sport Complex in Mimika, Papua into a training center for athletics, specifically for eastern Indonesia. 

"We will work collaborate with PASI to make Mimika Sport Complex a training center for eastern Indonesia, including Papua, Maluku and NTT. Papua has potential and physical strength to produce excellent athletics athletes,” he said.
