Papua Province’s 2022 Original Revenues Reach Target in Seventh Month, Largest Contribution from Freeport

14 July 2022

The Papua Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) announced that the value of original revenues (PAD) in 2022 exceeded its target in the first week of the seventh month. Of the targeted IDR.1.3 trillion, Papua collected IDR 1.3 trillion in regional revenues. The sector which contributed the most to PAD was the world’s largest gold mining company, PT Freeport Indonesia,” said Head of Papua Bapenda, Setyo Wahyudi in Jayapura on Wednesday (7/13/22) as quoted from papua.go.id.

However, Setyo said there are also other considerably large contributions to PAD Papua, such as motor vehicle taxes. By achieving the targets concerned, he continued, Papua’s PAD targets may change at the upcoming 2022 Regional budget (APBD) amendment session. “In short let’s wait and see what comes after the Regional Budget Amendment session.

Asked whether provincial expansion in Papua had an impact on original regional revenues Setyo responded he would still need to review the Law on New Autonomous Regions (DOB). “It will definitely affect PAD but we still need to review the legal basis of the new Law an when it will take effect,” he said.

Earlier, the Regional Secretary of the Province of Papua, Ridwan Rumasukun, said regional autonomy must be supported with stronger regional fiscal capacity where the regional government is continuously encouraged to optimize PAD to strengthen fiscal capacity.
