PT Freeport Indonesia Emergency Team Successfully Finds Some Workers, Search Efforts Continue

Tembagapura, Mimika, October 5, 2025 - After working tirelessly amid enormous challenges and high safety risks, the PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) Emergency Response Team today, Sunday, October 5, 2025, has found and evacuated 3 (three) bodies of colleagues from the wet material slide incident site at the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) Underground Mine.

Our colleagues were found at different times, specifically around 12:00 PM WIT when 1 (one) colleague was found, and around 4:53 PM WIT when 2 (two) colleagues were found.

The identification process conducted by the Medical Team and Police Team with utmost care and respect confirmed that the colleague found at around 12:00 PM WIT was Victor Bastida Ballesteros, a citizen of the Republic of Chile who was an employee of PT Redpath Indonesia. Meanwhile, the 2 (two) colleagues found at around 4:53 PM WIT are still undergoing the identification process by the Medical Team and Police Team.

PT Freeport Indonesia President Director, Tony Wenas, stated, "Beyond being colleagues, they are part of the Freeport extended family. This loss brings profound grief to us all. On behalf of myself and the company, I extend my condolences to the families who have been in Tembagapura since September 14, 2025. May God Almighty grant strength and fortitude to us all."

Tony Wenas explained that this discovery represents important progress, however rescue efforts continue to locate all trapped colleagues.

PT Freeport Indonesia ensures full accompaniment for all families of the colleagues who have passed, as well as full support for the identification process.
