PT. Freeport Indonesia Sends 10 Best People to Participate in IFRC 2021 in Yogyakarta

22 November 2021

Division of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) - Emergency Preparedness & Rescue (EP&R) of PT. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) sent a team consisting of 10 best people to take part in the 2021 Indonesian Fire Rescue Competition (IFRC) national level competition organized by the Ministry of Energy and Human Resources (ESDM) located in Yogyakarta City, from November 25 to December 3, 2021.

In a release received by Salam Papua, the Coordinator of the PTFI ERG team, Eddy Lesnussa, explained that the PTFI ERG team who were sent to Yogyakarta had followed a fairly rigorous training process and had been trained to provide agile emergency response services, supported by adequate equipment. From the previous training process, the team is expected to be ready to respond to emergency events, not only in the PTFI work area, but also ready to respond and provide emergency assistance in the local area.

In addition, the team was also trained to participate in national events such as the IFRC. The team will carry out of 8 existing categories such as: Road Accident Rescue (RAR), Confined Space Rescue (CSR), Firefighter Competency Test (FCT), Structural Firefighting (SFF), High Angle Rescue (HAR), Jungle Search and Rescue ( JSR), Water Rescue (WTR), Firefighter Fitness Drill (FFD). He explained that in the 2021 IFRC national level competition, one of the concepts was to introduce teams to handling road incidents.

It is known, IFRC is a competition event formed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, where in 1995 Indonesian rescue experts gathered and formulated a forum, so that the IFRC was formed. Then the concept of a Fire Rescue training and competition was made by ESDM, BASARNAS, Rescue & Safety Training Experts in Jakarta, whose concept was a challenge.

The competition becomes a medium for learning, sharing, benchmarking between companies. IFRC is a forum for learning from one another, between teams, sharing advanced rescue knowledge and technology and cooperation to prevent fatalities and injuries. One of the goals of the IFRC is to promote injury prevention through education and preparedness for all teams by introducing and building national and international level rescue concepts.

Every year, several mining companies, both oil and gas and energy mining companies gather together to update each other and compete in terms of handling a work accident. This is based on a shared awareness that the company or the mining industry has a very high work risk so that preparedness is needed. For this reason, each company forms an Emergency Response Team (ERT) or Emergency Response Group (ERG) as a team that is always ready for 24 hours to handle any emergency situation.
