Sharpening Skills, Papua Football Academy Competes Against SSB Mimika United

16 October 2022

Entering the third month of the training program, a test match was again held by the Papua Football Academy (PFA) at Mimika Sport Complex, Saturday (15/10/2020). This time, the opponent is SSB Mimika United from Mimika Regency.

Just like when trying out against the Papuan Taruna Academy School (SATP), the PFA match against Mimika United was also carried out in 2 matches with 2 x 25 minutes each prepared. "We thank Mimika United for being willing to play a friendly match against Papua Football Academy. We want to see the progress of the PFA children after two months of training through this match," said Wolfgang Pikal, Director of the Academy in a press release received around Papua. com, Sunday (16/10/2022).

In the first game which started at 15.15 WIT, the sunny weather made the match fun and enjoyable for the 180 spectators who attended according to the tickets recorded by the committee. The spectators in this match were parents and family of the two teams and the sponsor, PT Freeport Indonesia, and partners. The enthusiastic cheers of the parents of players from both teams made the atmosphere of the match like a test for teenagers on the Mimika Sport Complex soccer field.

In the first round, players from Papua Football Academy were able to perform flexibly and control the game and managed to score 5 goals without reply. The PFA goals were scored by Karel Ottow Geisller Womsiwor (4'), Musa Madai (8'), Apau Jangkup (14' and 22'), and Ferdinandez Fabregas Timothy Pulalo (18').

Furthermore, in the second round which was drenched in rain, the Papua Football Academy players again appeared dominant. In this second round, the match remains in the control of the PFA players. An additional goal was created in the 35th minute through Gerry Ben Gurion Rumaropen. The final score of the second game between PFA vs Mimika United ended 6-0. "I am happy with this match. The PFA players understand more and more how to play together as a team," said Wolfgang Pikal, who was once an assistant coach of the Indonesian national team.

After two months of training and their second match in the PFA, the players have shown increasing positional control. They began to understand the formation in the game of football. "One of the important notes from the PFA coaching team is that the players this time appeared more patient in individual possession of the ball," said Ardiles Rumbiak, PFA Head Coach.

How did the players react? Musa Madai, one of the PFA goalscorers in the first game, admitted that the team's game is getting better and understands how to play attack and defense better. "However, we still have many shortcomings that must be corrected and improved through training," said Musa, a player from Merauke.

Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Claus Wamafma, who was at the stadium since the beginning of the match, underlined that the match was managed seriously and regularly. "It is very good to introduce the official match system that applies to players from an early age. Also build a habit of respecting opponents and spectators," said Claus Wamafma.

As a football enthusiast and has defended the ITB soccer team, Claus Wamafma highlighted the appearance of PFA players on the field that were almost without serious violations. "In the first game, I saw how the PFA has two midfielders with good vision so that the team is able to dominate in possession of the field. The back row is compact and the distance between players is quite tight. Timing to cut the ball and counter attack is also good," said Claus Wamafma. However, the most important thing according to the Director of PT Freeport Indonesia is how the Papua Football Academy players show respect for their opponents.
