Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, during the inauguration of Indico, a subsidiary brand of PT Telkomsel Ekosistem Digital, said that, Telkomsel’s 5G signal will expand its reach to several regions. “This coming May, Telkom and Freeport will launch the 5G Mining system, applying robots to the mining sector,” said Erick in Jakarta, Thursday (10/3/2022).
Previously, Erick has encouraged both Telkom and Telkomsel to transform its business model, which Telkom need to focus on Business to Business (B2B) aspect and Telkomsel to Business to Consumer (B2C). Erick said, “Thank God, Telkom’s transformation which focuses on Business to Business can already be seen.”
The focus business transformations were part of a strategy to increase company’s competitiveness as a technology company in the future. That is because, Telkom and Telkomsel must anticipate the potential of Indonesia’s digital economy, which predicted to grow rapidly in the near future.
Erick stated, “I am happy that Telkomsel finally launch Indico, that can become an aggregator and access magnet. For Who? Certainly, for creators. Besides, economic growth could not be achieved if there is no work.” Since its introduction on May 2021, Telkomsel keeps expanding its commercial 5G network service to several cities in Indonesia. Telkomsel became the first cellular operator in Indonesia that introduced the commercial 5G network to the society, after acquiring SKLO from the Ministry of Communication and Informations.
Telkomsel’s 5G network will be present in Alam Sutera region, Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Kelapa Gading, Pantai Indah Kapuk, Pondok Indah, Widya Chandra, Telkomsel Smart Office Jakarta, Jababeka, and Mandalika. The network will also be present in all GraPARI branches, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Surabaya, Makassar, Bali, Batam, Medan, Solo, Balikpapan, as well as at the Telkom University and Bandung Institute of Technology.
