PT Freeport Indonesia will be the first mining company in South East Asia that will use 5G internet technology in its operations. Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir conveyed that Freeport established cooperation with Telkom as the operator provider of the 5G network. The 5G mining program will be inaugurated in May 2022. "5G Mining will be launched and be remarked as the first country who use this technology in South East Asia on May 2022. " Stated Erick as it is cited from Antara, Monday (10/1/2022).
Erick explained that the mining sector will heavily depend on assisted equipment on the depth of the mining site. Therefore, the worker will only have to operate the autonomous vehicle and controlled robot from afar. "Apart from the 5G function, it is also be functioned to maintain operational safety since the mining site was categorized as a depth mining site so that it is crucial to protect the worker inside," stated Erick. "5G mining will also be the increasing factor to improve integration connectivity under hyper connect network implementation. The plan is to administer advanced technology of autonomous car or autonomous truck," stated him.
Telkom is the Indonesian first cell phone provider that operates a 5G internet network which was followed by Indosat Oreedo. President Director of Telkomsel, Setyanto Hantoro estimated that 5G will create a new technology company that will boost the digital economy in Indonesia.
These companies will provide solutions to community daily needs that have never been developed before. "Previously, we have never imagined that 4G will create big companies such as Gojek and Tokopedia. My expectation in the future is that there will be more big companies by the development of 5G in the 5 or 6 next years, "stated Setyanto during the launching of Telkomsel 5G in Jakarta, Thursday (27/05/2021).
Telkomsel’s Network Director, Nugroho shares same opinion with Setyanto. According to him, the 5G era will create more new applications that will improve competitiveness and there will be natural selection to these applications. "Principally, 5G will develop a new trend, namely remote control. 5G technology is expected to play role in a variety of sectors such as health, mining, manufacturing, etc. So that, it is expected that all the operational will be zero-touch or non-human, " stated Nugroho.
