The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) supports the implementation of the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) of PT Berkah Kawasan Manyar Sejahtera (BKMS) to realize the supply of high-reliability electricity and the development of New and Renewable Energy. It was done to support the accelerated growth of the manufacturing industry in the Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ). "With a reliable supply of electricity, we hope that new investment in the industrial sector in the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) will continue to grow," said Director General of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Jisman P. Hutajulu at the PT BKMS 2023-2032 RUPTL Dissemination event in Gresik
Jisman also said that electricity planning is an important process in managing and developing the electric power system. A balance between demand and supply of electric power is needed to obtain a reliable, efficient, and sustainable electric power system. "If the supply of electricity experiences a shortage or deficit, it can potentially be unattractive for investors to invest in the industrial sector, especially in areas like JIIPE," said Jisman.
As for guaranteeing the reliability of the electricity supply, in implementing the planning, it needs to prepare an adequate reserve margin to maintain supply continuity when several generating units come to a maintenance period and anticipate the dynamics of electricity demand.
As is known, PT BKMS is a business entity holding a business area in JIIPE, which is a Gresik SEZ as well as a National Strategic Project (PSN). "The government is strongly committed to developing PSN to encourage economic growth, such as through the manufacturing industry and downstream mineral refining. This commitment is to ensure that PSN can provide long-term benefits for economic and social development and improve people's welfare," said Jisman.
Jisman further said that the government also supports the supply of electricity for downstream mineral refining to increase the added value and competitiveness of the country's mining industry, reduce dependence on exports of raw materials, create jobs, and encourage sustainable economic development. "In this case we encourage PT BKMS to provide reliable electric power to all tenants including PT Freeport Indonesia which has committed to carry out mineral refining in the JIIPE Area," said Jisman.
Along with increasing awareness and concern for environmental and sustainability issues, Jisman revealed that tenants' needs are not only related to the reliability of electricity supply, but also there are increasing demands for electricity sourced from new and renewable energy (EBT). In addition, the demand for exports to enter international markets and the industrial sector is also considering the use of green electricity as part of their strategy.
The utilization of renewable energy electricity is in line with the future direction of national energy policy, namely the transition from fossil energy to EBT as cleaner and environmentally friendly energy.
In providing electricity, Jisman said that PT BKMS needed support from relevant stakeholders. For this reason, the government encourages PT PLN (Persero) to provide support in the supply of electricity through cooperation.
The President Director of PT BKMS Bambang said that the availability of sustainable, affordable (equity), and reliable electric power is an important factor for the manufacturing industry to produce quality and competitive products. "Gresik SEZ themed Manufacturing and Technology needs to provide a competitive business climate to be able to achieve the targets set by the government in attracting foreign direct investment, export-oriented industrial industries and import substitution industrial sectors," said Bambang.
Bambang said the government's support in providing high-reliability electricity, accelerating licensing in the electrical energy sector, and developing new renewable energy (EBT) will provide a driving force and competitiveness for the manufacturing industry in the SEZ Gresik on a global stage.
Jisman said the importance of the RUPTL so that the carefully prepared plans are not for nothing. "We hope that all the infrastructure planned in this RUPTL can be completed on time so that the goal of providing electricity in sufficient quantities and with good reliability can be realized," concluded Jisman.
