Special economic zones (KEK) and industrial zones are supported with power supply from the government. Yesterday (26/6) KEK Gresik also known as Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) was officially acknowledged to come under the government’s RUPTL electricity procurement plan.
Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry Director General of Electrical Power Jisman P. Hutajulu said electricity production planning is adjusted according to economic growth. As such, infrastructure development will hinge on the projection for each area. However, this does not apply to operators of special economic zones and tourism zones.
"We will be sure to accommodate every request made by an industrial zone, special economic zone, or tourism zone,” he said during an event for RUPTL dissemination at PT Berkah Kawasan Manyar Sejahtera (BKMS), in Gresik, yesterday (26/6).
However, he underscored the importance of maintaining efficiency in electric power production. PLN should adjust power production according to needs. The ESDM Ministry will not allow establishment of idle power plants.
He said the RUPTL will be evaluated on a yearly basis, and supply could be increased as needed. “With reliable power supply, investments in JIIPE can be expected to grow,” he said.
BKMS Technical and Business Development Director Naresh Kumar Anchalia disclosed the planned power supply under the KEK Gresik RUPTL for the 2023-2032 period is 1,130.5 megawatts (mw). The KEK operator has provided a 22.5 mw minigas power plant (PLTMG). Also, he said, another 500 mw will be added under a collaborative scheme with PLN.
PT BKMS President Director Bambang Soetiono expects availability of reliable power supply will attract investors. The government has called for USD 7 billion in foreign direct investment to be in place within 5 years. As of this year, KEK Gresik has taken in USD 4.5 billion, most of which is from the USD 3 billion investment by PT Freeport.
