Jokowi Visits Papua to Review the First 5G Mining in ASEAN

31 August 2022

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) paid a working visit to Papua. The visit was informed by Jokowi via his official Instagram account quoted on Tuesday (30/8/2022). "Today, I and First Lady Iriana will go to Jayapura and Timika in Papua," he said.

Jokowi and Iriana departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport this afternoon and were accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir, and Minister of Investment/Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia.

"The plan is that tomorrow I will inaugurate the Papua Football Academy (PFA) and hand over Business Identification Numbers (NIB) for Micro and Small Businesses (UMK) and individuals," said Jokowi.

Separately, Erick said that the working visit also included a direct review of the readiness for the implementation of 5G mining activities. "This will be the first time in Southeast Asia. Please pray for it to go well. Bismillah (in the name of God)," said Erick.

Some time ago, Erick stated that 5G mining is a collaboration between PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk. "The function of 5G Mining is to maintain operational security because it is carried out in deep mines," explained Erick.
