President Joko Widodo arrived at the Grasberg mining site, Mimika, on Thursday, September 1, morning at 08.15 WIT during a series of working visits to Papua.

Upon arrival, Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Jokowi, accompanied by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) President Director, Tony Wenas, visited the Bunaken Museum to listen to the history of PTFI mining.

On that occasion, Tony said Grasberg was the second mine after Ertsberg. "Now, there is no more mining activity in those two mines?" Jokowi questioned, quoted from a press release. "There is no 100 percent mining activity in Etsberg and Grasberg. Now we are reclaiming and maintaining the stability of the slopes," said Tony.

Jokowi also took a tour of PTFI's open pit mining area from Grasberg and spoke with President Commissioner Richard Adkerson. After two hours in Grasberg, Jokowi and his entourage continued their journey to underground mining.

During this visit, Jokowi was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, and Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Bahlil Lahadalia.
